Building at the intersection of AI, education and healthcare.
Hi, I'm Saad Umer. I'm an incoming medical student at the University of Exeter, and a builder and educator who wants to use technology to solve problems that actually matter. Right now I'm exploring the future of AI in education and healthcare, documenting the process, and building products that make learning more accessible.
Current Focus
Three things occupying most of my time and attention this year.
MMI AI Tutor
An AI-powered interview preparation platform for prospective UK medical school applicants. Before building extensively, I'm validating the idea directly with students — understanding pain points, testing demand and gathering feedback ahead of the first version.
Learning to Build
Developing my technical skills in public, working with Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AI-assisted development and modern tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Supabase and Vercel to turn ideas into shipped products.
Helping Students
Having just completed A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, I plan to offer one-to-one tutoring and AI-assisted revision sessions designed to help students study smarter, not just harder.
Builder. Educator. Aspiring Doctor.
My long-term goal is simple: combine medicine and technology to build solutions that improve people's lives at scale. Medicine is a major part of my future, but I don't see myself limited to a single field — I'm fascinated by how healthcare, business and technology overlap, and how combining knowledge from each can create meaningful change.
Right now I'm learning to code, building projects, exploring AI tools and documenting the journey, while continuing to develop skills that I hope will let me make a real contribution later on. I believe technology should empower people, not replace them.
Beyond Academics
Gym & Calisthenics
Training for almost three years now — it's taught me more about patience and consistency than most things I've read about them.
Reading
Mostly non-fiction — productivity, business and psychology — read for practical lessons I can actually apply.
Cooking
A skill outside academics I've kept up deliberately, especially Asian cuisine.
Languages
Fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi, conversational German, and currently learning Arabic.
Leadership & Growth
Deputy Head Boy
Brookfield Community School — leadership, communication and teamwork skills built while balancing academics.
Duke of Edinburgh
Completed both the Bronze and Silver awards, which pushed resilience, independence and working with others outside a classroom setting.
Volunteering
Hampshire Libraries and Barnardo's — time spent with people from very different backgrounds, which reinforced empathy as a practice, not just a value.
Why I Share My Journey
I'd rather document the process than just the outcomes — the lessons, failures and slow progress that come with pursuing medicine, building projects and learning in public. I don't have it all figured out, and I don't expect to.
Looking Ahead
Over the next decade I want to grow as a student, doctor, entrepreneur, builder and Muslim — contributing to education, healthcare systems and accessibility through AI along the way.
Values
Curiosity
I learn across disciplines because the best ideas tend to show up where medicine, technology and business intersect, not within any one of them alone.
Service
Whether through tutoring, volunteering or building products, I want the work itself to leave people better off, not just look good on paper.
Discipline
As a Muslim, faith shapes how I approach life — integrity, consistency and gratitude aren't separate from how I work, they're the basis of it.
Continuous Improvement
I don't think success comes from talent alone. It comes from showing up consistently and being honest with yourself about what isn't working.
Growth is a continuous process, not a destination

The Long-Term Vision
Building through experimentation
I'm interested in building practical solutions at the intersection of AI, education and healthcare. I'm still early as a builder, but I believe the best way to learn is by creating, testing and sharing publicly.
MMI AI Tutor
Idea ValidationAI-powered interview preparation for aspiring medical students. Traditional MMI prep is expensive, inconsistent and hard to access. The goal is realistic practice scenarios, personalised AI feedback and progress tracking — built only once the problem is properly validated with real applicants.
Personal Website
LiveThis site — a home for documenting the journey, showing project work and offering services to students and businesses.
Current Technologies
Future Projects
Education
AI-powered learning tools that make education more personalised and accessible.
Healthcare
Products that improve efficiency, patient experience, administration and safety.
Productivity
Systems and tools that help people work and learn more effectively.
AI Applications
Practical, narrow solutions that use AI to solve one real problem well.
"The goal isn't perfection. The goal is progress."
I don't think projects need to be perfect before they're shared — I'd rather learn publicly and improve through iteration.
Curious across disciplines
My long-term interests centre on medicine and technology, but useful skills tend to sit at the intersection of many fields. Select a category to see the detail.
A direct interest of mine, partly through preparing for medical school interviews — understanding decision-making and behaviour change is directly relevant to both medicine and building products people actually use.
Helping students and businesses leverage technology
